Nagareru

This piece takes its title from Nagareru 『流れる』 (1956), a film by Mikio Naruse, internationally known as 『Flowing』(though the content is entirely unrelated). In this work, a solitary woman is passively carried through a white, liminal space. She remains completely passive, yet at times her movements seem to synchronize with the music. It may appear as if she is attuned to the world, but the piece ultimately suggests that “free will” does not exist—what seems like agency is merely a fleeting illusion shaped by external flows.
