CREATIVE COMPROMISE

Creative Compromise presents a hypnagogic exploration of synthetic nostalgia, finding the line between home video footage and the uncanny ai hallucination. Visually anchored in the iconography of the cinematic mythology of Los Angeles, the piece imagines a familiar dreamscape of palm lined boulevards, red convertibles, and neon nocturnes. The narrative creates a sense of anemoia, for a time that never quite existed. Vignettes of couples and wanderers that feel pulled from a photo series of late 90s youth culture zine, yet they remain distant and impenetrable. Accompanying the visuals is a bedroom-pop ballad. The lyrics "Run away, don't look back... our song was pretty good" reinforce themes of fleeting youth and the impossibility of returning to a past that perhaps never existed.
