Love The Pain

About the artwork

First minted video work that utilizes "Mochi 1", a new video generation tool. For me learning to use a new video generation tool feels like like exploring a new synth patch - trying to discover what kind of music it would be good in. Mochi has a grainy, dreamlike aesthetic - it feels both detached and grounded in reality at the same time. I felt scared from some of my early tests, and following these feelings of fear led me towards this particular work. I had my first ever root canal treatment done to me this year - "Love The Pain" was there inspired by real-life events, by our fear of the dentist, and the imagined dental procedures that we thankfully do not get to see for ourselves.

Roope Rainisto
Roope Rainisto, from Finland, has committed the past 25 years to the disciplined study and practice of visual storytelling, particularly in art, design, and photography. His work is a prolonged inquiry into the nature of how we tell stories visually, balancing between the tangible and the ethereal. In recent years, Rainisto has turned his attention to the implications of artificial intelligence in art, exploring how these tools can extend or disrupt our traditional understanding of photographic expression. This is an extension of his lifelong exploration of the intersection of technology and artistry. Educated with a Master of Science in Information Networks, Rainisto's understanding of the technical underpinnings of digital technologies influences his artistic practice, offering him a unique vantage point from which to experiment and innovate. Throughout his career, Rainisto's works have consistently sought to challenge and expand the viewer's perception of reality. His artistic journey is less about the pursuit of newness for its own sake and more about a continuous reevaluation of what constitutes the visual narrative. In each piece, whether rooted in traditional mediums or digital exploration, Rainisto urges a dialogue about the nature of reality, illusion, and the art that lies in between.
