Ape City (Harry HD)

Ape City takes its inspiration from 2001: A Space Odyssey, and specifically the transition shot from apes to AI powered space travel (via the slow motion shot of the flying bone fragment spinning into space). In this piece, apes appear against a textural backdrop of explosions,catastrophe, and crumbling civilization. Their presence serves as a constant reminder that beneath our elaborate culture and technology, we’re still deeply tribal, driven by primal urges. This absurd coexistence of advanced culture and meaningless violence sets the tone of the piece, and sets off the series with apes being a connective element throughout several of the pieces.
