Nostalgia is to memories as romantic love is to a partner. The essence of the most favorable constituents, distilled into a succinct package of positive recollection; along with the erasure of any negative aspects. A little respite to retreat to when the reality of the world grows too heavy. Perhaps the capacity for nostalgia is an evolutionary adaptation to carry humans through dark patches of life; stoking, the sometimes faint, embers of hope.
