About the artwork
In Hinduism and Buddhism, “MAYA” is defined as the supernatural power wielded by gods and demons to produce illusions. Broadly: illusion.
Featuring over 3,000 text messages containing the artist’s first name, Pure Information exposes the intimate, strange, and mundane moments addressed to her personally that live inside her phone. Unlike public online activity, text messages are usually kept private. In this piece, Man turns over a decade of received messages inside out, revealing the depth of feeling and activity continuously present in the small machines we carry with us.
