This AI artwork was created by the artistic duo Ümüt and Alberto between 2020 - 2023 using a dataset of thousands of pictures taken and recorded by them and trained with a neural network. At its core, this work explores how AI perceives and interprets the subtleties of body language and movement within the latent space. As the artists blend technology with organic forms, they unveil new perspectives on human expression, capturing the essence of the human condition. The solo or paired interactions of the male and female forms offer a profound commentary on the dynamics of relationships, reflecting both harmony and discord.
In art, the human body has always been a canvas for new technologies to express and redefine. Ümüt and Alberto's venture through video and AI in this piece to expand and find new paths, pushing the boundaries of how machines understand and depict human emotion and interaction. Ümüt Yildiz, currently based in Cologne and Berlin, is a distinguished lecturer in Creative Coding in Design at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. Since 2018, his exploration of artificial intelligence has positioned him at the forefront of technological innovation. In addition to his academic pursuits, Yildiz collaborates extensively with artists like Cro and Bilderbuch, as well as luxury brands including Bulgari, Tods, and Vogue Italia. His artistic contributions were notably featured in the Decentral Art Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2022.
Alberto Maria Colombo, originally from Milan, relocated to New York City in 2011 to study photography at the School of Visual Arts. His career trajectory includes working with esteemed photographer Mario Sorrenti and later as an art director at Baron & Baron. Colombo is a pioneer in integrating Artificial Intelligence into the fashion industry. His AI artworks have been showcased at prestigious venues such as the Decentral Art Pavilion during the 2022 Venice Biennial, Art Basel Miami, and the Superchief Gallery in New York and Tokyo, as well as the Triennale Museum in Milan. Collaborating with brands like Bulgari, Pomellato, Tod’s, Vogue Italia, L’Officiel Italia, AGL, and Kiton, Colombo has brought AI technology into fashion. His work reflects a unique fusion of nature's tranquility with the complexities of advanced technology.
