Niceaunties, along with seven AI artists, is contributing to a digital advent project in Middelburg, the Netherlands. The AI Christmas videos, accompanied by digital art from local and international artists, will be unveiled daily on 24 screens across 24 shopfronts in the city centre of Middelburg, from 1 December 2023 to 5 January 2024. All videos revolve around the theme ‘What does Christmas look like for you in a digital world?’ and create an entertaining route through the city, intertwining technology, art, retailers, and agencies in this festive winter setting.
Niceaunties’ AI video, ‘Have a Very Auntie Christmas,’ showcases celebratory activities set in a winter snowscape, viewed through Auntie lens. The Desert might be the last place you'd expect to find a whale. Here, the whale reaches its most desperate stage in its search for connection. The video begins with a school of fish that transforms into a murmuration of birds, perfectly synchronized in their movement. Each bird in a murmuration follows its seven closest neighbors and ignores the rest. 

The whale then encounters a desolate landscape: uninhabited hotels with “No wifi” No signal, internet-free signs, empty roads, and telephone poles and power lines stretching endlessly into the distance. The heat and isolation of the desert can induce hallucinations, and it's here that the whale finds dancing whale and animal bones.

‘Just browsing... but now I'm trapped’

The minimalist, almost sterile interior of the store, with its neatly arranged racks and shelves, initially feels calm and straightforward. However, as you delve deeper, the atmosphere subtly shifts —the store that once seemed so ordinary begins to feel like a maze, where the exit is elusive. This work captures the paradox of modern shopping: a place where endless choices can sometimes feel like a trap, turning what should be a quick visit into a complex, unending journey.
