"The End of History," inspired by Francis Fukuyama's "The End of History and the Last Man," explores the complexities of our contemporary world through a collection of short video pieces, ranging from social and political commentary to abstract fantasy.
While Fukuyama posits an endpoint to humanity's ideological evolution in liberal democracy and free-market capitalism, this collection challenges that notion, reflecting the belief that we are closer to a physical end of human history— whether it be through war, climate disaster, subjugation, famine, etc. The initial pieces of the collection offer a stark critique of political systems, social injustices, and elite dominance, mirroring the anxieties of our time. As the collection progresses, it shifts towards abstract fantasy, representing a subconscious escape from overwhelming realities.
This duality encapsulates the tension between the relentless march of socio-political developments and the human desire for escapism. "The End of History" is my way of inviting viewers to confront unsettling truths while acknowledging the necessity of dreams, urging reflection on whether we stand at history's end or on the cusp of a new beginning.
