My work incorporates archival computer graphics, text, and mathematical visualizations from the 1960s through 1990s. Using early computer visuals as inputs makes me feel connected to the people who originally created them. They were discovering novel uses for emerging technology, much like artists today. However, they didn’t have access to instant feedback or the ability to undo their work. The constraints of early technology required them to meticulously plan their experiments long before they could ever see the results. I like taking the time to look closely at the details of their work and appreciate the careful consideration that went into them. I also enjoy imagining how they would approach their work today using modern technology.
