SOCIAL TORIKIZOKU PARTY

“Torikizoku” literally means “bird aristocracy” in Japanese. The birds continuously scan their surroundings, moving their eyes as they observe the environment around them. Their gaze appears to be more than simple vigilance; it also suggests a role assigned to each individual. The work evokes the hierarchies that form within a group, collective identity, and distributed subjectivity. Each bird appears as an autonomous individual while simultaneously functioning as an element within a larger structure. The repetition of their gazes and the arrangement of their bodies suggest multiple social relations: surveillance, cooperation, subordination, and ritual.
