In this piece, I portrayed the magical girl herself as a robotic being.
She possesses almost none of the softness associated with humanity. Wearing an artificial smile, she calmly continues firing the magical gun in her hands. She is smiling, yet no emotion can be found in her expression. I think that coldness makes the work even more unsettling.
The light fired from the gun is not simply meant to attack its targets. With every shot, human bodies twist, stretch, and acquire new patterns and textures, while the surrounding world is repainted as a gaudy, pop-colored hell. What begins as a strangely pastoral landscape filled with pumpkins and a spacecraft gradually transforms into an abnormal space overflowing with neon colors, viscous patterns, enormous faces, and symbols.
In this piece, I emphasized the magical girl’s emotionless, mechanical nature more than her cuteness. Rather than an innocent being transforming the world, she updates it into a pop hell with perfect accuracy and certainty, all without feeling anything at all. I think that quality came through successfully.
I have always been obsessed with laughter, having written countless scripts for sketches and manzaicomedy—not as a performer, but as a writer. The performers would take my scripts and elevate them, interpreting them in ways that made the laughter shine brighter.
Yet within me grew a desire to pursue something sharper, stranger—laughter so radical it might no longer even be laughter at all. Perhaps no one else would laugh, but it would be mine alone.
This vision could not be expressed through words, nor could it be performed by someone else. It belonged entirely to the realm of imagination—unrealizable, until now. In my restless search, the times gifted me with a remarkable technology. AI appeared before me as a new kind of performer.
